My younger son, Tiitus (6 years), is a keen wrestler and a tough guy.
Dubrovnik, Croatia, what a beautiful place to visit. I was there only four days with my wife to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary but both of us fell in love for this place almost immediately. Old culture, old buildings, beautiful Adriatic Sea, and very friendly people. What more can you wish.
What comes to camera gear I had only my Fuji X100 with me (plus iPhone) and it served me wonderfully throughout the trip. No hassling with lens changes or zooming – just shooting. Very liberating. Its 35mm equivalent lens is really a gem for general shooting. And JPEGs all the way; with Fuji cameras (X100 and X-Pro1 which I own) I do not shoot RAWs anymore. Really no need for that. I used OVF 99% of the time and really enjoyed that too.
We are back to chilly Finland. In Canary Islands it was sunny all the time and temps between 25 and 29 degrees Celsius. Here in Finland it is grey weather with temps of 0-3 degrees Celsius. It was a fantastic holiday and the whole family enjoyed a lot. I had Ricoh GR and Fuji X-Pro1 with 35/1.4 lens with me. I haven’t had time even take the pics from the SD cards to my computer yet so I will post them later on here and in my Flickr site.
Here are few iPhone pics from our hotel and Amadores beach.
I have to say that I love the photo below. Not only because there is my lovely son but also because how my Leica Digilux 2 renders the smoke. I know that Tiitus is not focused properly but the smoke is like magical to me. I used Digilux 2’s flash in its first position where it works as a bounced flash. For color photos you really can not use this camera over ISO 100 but that ingenious flash saves the situation.
Our track and field club had a running competitions yesterday. Both Kaapo and Tiitus were competing, Kaapo 800 meters and Tiitus 400 meters. Lovely weather, great company, and heartwarming spirits. Everybody got a trophy and especially a good mood. This is how you organize sports competitions for children. I saw everybody enjoying. A lot.
Above photos were shot with Fuji X-Pro1 and Asahi Pentax Super-Takumar 135mm F3.5 manual focus lens. I had some problems to get the focus spot on and also camera shake was not so nice time to time because of lag of image stabilization. I was thinking during shooting this event how good the Fujinon 55-200mm zoom lens would have been.
Kaapo got Hymypoika (“Smiling boy”) statue from school today. This statue is awarded by other students of the school. The statue will be given to a student who forwards good will, is happy, helpful, and honest friend. One boy and one girl studying in grades 1-3 will be awarded annually.
I am so very proud of him.
