Kaapo’s first school year is soon over

Kaapo with classmates, originally uploaded by Jonne Naarala.

Oh my, it is so hard to believe how fast the time flies! After summer he will be going to the second grade. And just few moments ago he was a small baby – at least I feel so.

He has been very good in his schoolwork for which I am very proud of. And he has got lots of new friends that is also a fantastic thing. I hope that at least some of those friendships will last all of his life. That would be a real treasure.

My grandmother

My grandmother, originally uploaded by Jonne Naarala.

Last Saturday I visited her with my family. It is always so emotional to see her. She is a great character and a very special person to me. She is now 92 years old and suffering from mild Alzheimer’s. I was so grateful that she still recognized us all and discussed with us quite lively.

Please, visit your loved ones. Your visit will be very important to them and even more to yourselves.

Lovely Flickr Explore

I have never understood how Flickr Explore picks up the photos which will be presented in the Explore photostream. And I do not actually care. All I can say that it is a lovely system because you can get casual everyday snapshots in Explore. The shot below is a very good example of that. Just my son Tiitus helping me out with the firewood. It is a great memory and actually an exploration of life for Tiitus. Maybe that is why it was in Explore.

How to proceed with X-Pro1?

Earlier I stated that X-Pro1 is a great B&W camera. And that is fully true. I have decided now that I will shoot in color with it though. Then I will have the possibility to choose between different post-processing options including the fantastic B&W presets by VSCO Film. But many times I want to have color shots too. Sometimes vibrant ones and sometimes with muted colors.

Another important thing to test more is X-Pro1's RAW files. Especially now that I have faster computer (see the post below) I feel that I should give a possibility for RAWs too. Earlier I have tested them only quite occasionally. I am actually quite exited about RAW shooting now. I have looked through many great shots processed from RAW files in Flickr and those were not having that “smearing” problem.

A photo of my sons at the end of this post because they just had their birthdays and it was Father's Day yesterday:

White joy

We got some snow yesterday and our boys were really thrilled about it as they are every year when we have first snow. They are so happy even if we have lots of snow here every winter. Unfortunately it seems that this snow will now smelt down because weather forecast promises some plus degrees. I like the snow too because it gives so much light.

Here is one shot of Kaapo enjoying snow and his Stiga sled. Shot with X-Pro1 and XF 35mm F1.4 R lens. It was taken at 4:27 pm and I had to use ISO 1600 with F 2.0.

Born 020202

Our great border terrier, Herkko, had his 10th birthday yesterday. He is such a fantastic little dog and we love him so much. When he sees a tennis ball he will be like a young puppy despite of his ten years of age.

Uno is number one

I love how kids concentrate themselves when playing card or board games. Here Kaapo seems to really think about his next move in Uno card game. I also like a lot this quite heavy processing I did for this particular shot.

The only boy

Kaapo loves to dance. He has now been two years in a modern dance class and he really likes to perform this wonderful art. In addition to the artistic part dancing is very good physical exercise and improves a lot of coordination and balance. What I have been wondering about is the very low number of boys in these dancing classes. Do people still think that dancing is not enough “boyish” hobby? Anyways, Kaapo is the only boy in his dancing class.
