Aurora borealis

Yesterday we had very nice Aurora borealis here and I tried to capture them with my Ricoh GR. The most difficult phase was to find out where I’ve put my light and cheap tripod! 🙂 I used f/2.8 and shutter speed of 8 secs for the shots below. I was quite pleased for the results as these were the first Northern lights I have photographed.

Lovely Flickr Explore

I have never understood how Flickr Explore picks up the photos which will be presented in the Explore photostream. And I do not actually care. All I can say that it is a lovely system because you can get casual everyday snapshots in Explore. The shot below is a very good example of that. Just my son Tiitus helping me out with the firewood. It is a great memory and actually an exploration of life for Tiitus. Maybe that is why it was in Explore.

White joy

We got some snow yesterday and our boys were really thrilled about it as they are every year when we have first snow. They are so happy even if we have lots of snow here every winter. Unfortunately it seems that this snow will now smelt down because weather forecast promises some plus degrees. I like the snow too because it gives so much light.

Here is one shot of Kaapo enjoying snow and his Stiga sled. Shot with X-Pro1 and XF 35mm F1.4 R lens. It was taken at 4:27 pm and I had to use ISO 1600 with F 2.0.

Uno is number one

I love how kids concentrate themselves when playing card or board games. Here Kaapo seems to really think about his next move in Uno card game. I also like a lot this quite heavy processing I did for this particular shot.

Processed in Snapseed

The shot below has been shot with Fuji X100 and was initially saved in my Aperture 3 library in my MacBook. In Aperture I saved some of the shots from that photo shoot in the photo stream in iCloud which is very handy way to get shots in your iOS devices (and vice versa of course). I opened this shot from the photo stream in my iPad and processed it in the very wonderful Snapseed app. I cropped it and adjusted color and contrast. Very handy indeed. I uploaded the final version in my Flickr stream straight from Snapseed. And of course the final version was immediately also in my MacBook through iCloud. Fantastic.

Boys love snow

Our boys, Kaapo and Tiitus, really love snow but this winter has not been very good in that respect. But now we have some and they enjoy.

Test post from Blogsy

Just a quick test using Blogsy for iPad to write a blog post here. This app seems to have very nice formatting tools and nice handy link to my Flickr account to attach photos here. Let’s try to include one Christmas shot here:

Greetings from Snowland

Greetings from Snowland, originally uploaded by Jonne Naarala.

This morning it was -23 C still so it seems that our spring is not starting very soon. Although sunshine is somehow warming up already but it is not intense enough to melt the snow if the base temp is so low. I am now counting spring all those days when we will not get any new snow. I think that is a very good rule now and gives nice spring feeling at least.
