Our place in winter sun

Our place in winter sun, originally uploaded by Jonne Naarala.

This winter has been very snowy and lately also very cold one. Snow everywhere plus -37 C is a cool combo. Well, actually we are very much used to this kind of a weather but because our winter lasts almost six months you have to complain at least littlebit in some point. 😉

Winter sun

So beautiful sunshine but not warming much yet, Days and nights have been very cold lately. We had even -32 degrees Celsius last Friday. Hopefully sunshine will have some warming rays in a month or so.

Playhouse behind the snow dune

I really think that we have got enough snow for this winter. But it is still so long way to go to the spring time. You see our sons’ playhouse in the pic and I have already once cleared out the snow from its roof.

We do not have any super heavy snow falls in Finland (not usually more than 20 cm in one fall) but as we have freezing temps constantly for five months the snow really accumulates.

Half-pipe, originally uploaded by Jonne Naarala.

We are having our own “half-pipe” on our front yard steps. We have got lots of snow already this winter and there are at least two (or two and half) months winter left at the moment. So, in the end of March this half-pipe will be a huge one. Just take your snowboards out!

Dinner at the summer cottage

It would be so nice to be dining like that now but it is snow, snow, snow at the moment. This morning there were really demanding driving conditions on the roads. Lots of snow (packed by heavy wind gusts) flying around. It was so difficult to see anything behind other cars. But of course we are used to winter driving conditions in Finland, so that helps a lot.

Another sunset shot from the last summer.

It seems that I really am longing for the summer now when we have the best winter time going on. I haven’t had time for any outdoor shooting lately and wanted to have some outdoor shots in Flickr so archives are my rescue. Not very wintery scene though. 😉

Time stops

Now that more snow is coming down and winter is in its peak I decided to go through my photo archives from last summer. There are actually quite many good shots I have not processed or even noticed in the first run. So, go through your photo archives and find some gems!

Our frontyard

Great example of a nice winter day. Temperature about -15 C and crisp frost everywhere. After this we have had quite much more snow coming down and not so beautiful scene. But we will have lots days like that later on. Usually March is very beautiful month because then we have more light and snowy scenery will be more stunning then.
