winter

Processed in Snapseed

The shot below has been shot with Fuji X100 and was initially saved in my Aperture 3 library in my MacBook. In Aperture I saved some of the shots from that photo shoot in the photo stream in iCloud which is very handy way to get shots in your iOS devices (and vice versa of course). I opened this shot from the photo stream in my iPad and processed it in the very wonderful Snapseed app. I cropped it and adjusted color and contrast. Very handy indeed. I uploaded the final version in my Flickr stream straight from Snapseed. And of course the final version was immediately also in my MacBook through iCloud. Fantastic.

Boys love snow

Our boys, Kaapo and Tiitus, really love snow but this winter has not been very good in that respect. But now we have some and they enjoy.

Kicksled fun

Kaapo’s godfather Tommi brought an old kicksled for us. I and Tommi fixed it and now it is in the working condition and has a new red paint on it.

It really moves fast and is very handy here in countryside when you want to go from place A to place B in the winter time.

We are having new snow at this very moment. I am not that happy about it because it seems that we are going to have spring time in June or so. Sigh.

Keeping the tracks open

I have always found snowmobiles very irritating vehicles. They are very noisy, extremely smelly, and produce lots of exhaust gases. And many of the snowmobile riders do not know where you are allowed to drive one. I accept when the snowmobile is used for reindeer cattling or for going to ice-fishing. The sport-usage of snowmobiles should be banned in my opinion.

Greetings from Snowland

This morning it was -23 C still so it seems that our spring is not starting very soon. Although sunshine is somehow warming up already but it is not intense enough to melt the snow if the base temp is so low. I am now counting spring all those days when we will not get any new snow. I think that is a very good rule now and gives nice spring feeling at least.

Blue skies, white birches

Blue skies, white birches, originally uploaded by Jonne Naarala.

The birches in our yard were so stunningly beautiful yesterday morning. Frost was so pure white and it was flickering nicely in the sunshine. Sky was totally blue without any clouds. The air smelled spring even if we still have some 75 cm snow everywhere.

Today we are not having any blue skies. Dark clouds are over us and we are having a heavy snow fall at the moment.

A scene from the church yard

Shot from the frontyard of Kuopio Cathedral. I really like the “through the trees” scene here. On the left side is the former Bank of Finland building and on the right side Kuopio museum. It was a beautiful sunny but windy day.

To love snow is a quite essential ability here in Finland. Our sons do love the white stuff! I think it is a real blessing to have four totally different seasons.
